Resorts in the Maldives woo tourists with promises of the last paradise on earth and if your idea of paradise is a pristine tropical island with swaying palm trees, pure white beaches and brilliant turquoise lagoons, then the Maldives will not disappoint you!

Small & quaint Malé is not spectacular, but quite unique as a capital city. It s clean and tidy, with mosques, markets, a maze of small streets and a certain charm all its own.

Resorts

The vast majority of visitors come to the Maldives on package tours, staying at one of the 70-plus resort islands. Most resorts are in the three atolls closest to the capital - North Malé Atoll, South Malé Atoll and Ari Atoll. All the resorts are beautiful and are blessed with white sand, blue sea and swaying palm trees, and they all promise great diving.

Kudahuvadhoo

In South Nilandhoo Atoll, the island of Kudahuvadhoo has one of the mysterious mounds known as hawittas. They are probably the ruins of Buddhist temples, but have not been thoroughly investigated by archaeologists.

Each resort has its own method of airport transfer service which may be a boat or a sea plane depending on the distance of the island from the airport. These services are not run on a scheduled basis but connect with the various incoming flights and are booked when you make your island resort booking.

It is recommended that you pre book your boat safari or resort island accommodation before you arrive in the Maldives as occupancy levels are very high and it is often difficult to find accommodation on arrival. If your resort is pre-booked, your booking will include the return transfer to the airport. If you have the option and the funds, a transfer by air is a worthwhile expense and an enjoyable experience.

There is little or no organized nightlife although most resorts have informal discos around the bar areas. Live bands play either traditional or western music. Beach parties and barbecues are also popular. In evenings, many resorts have cultural shows.
