The orange-growing capital of India, Nagpur forms the second capital of Maharashtra. The foundation of the city was laid by the Gond King of Deogad, "Bakht Buland Shah" in the year 1702. The city gets its name from the river Nag that flows through this land. It was once the capital of the central province, but was later incorporated into Maharashtra. Nagpur is endowed with rich forest resources and in itself is the second greenest city in India. The forests around Nagpur are full of best quality teak plantations. |

Air : Sonegaon airport at Nagpur is nearly 8 Kms south of Nagpur city. This domestic airport is connected to Mumbai, Calcutta, Delhi Hyderabad, Pune, Bhubaneswar, Raipur.
Rail : Nagpur railway station is an important rail junction on the Central and Southeastern lines. Electrified broad gauge railway track connects Nagpur to all four major metros.
Road : The district is well connected by roads with all industrial centres of the Country. National Highways passing through Nagpur are Bombay Calcutta NH-6 & Kanyakumari Varanasi NH-7.

Ramtek Ramtek has a number of picturesque 600 year old temples surmounting the Hill of Rama. It is also famous as the place where the Sanskrit poet Kalidasa composed his epic "Meghdoot". The old British cantonment of Kemtee is nearby and a memorial to the dramatist Kalidasa is just along the road from the MTDC holiday resort which has a spectacular view of this town. The main attractions here are the Ram temple which is more than 600 years old, as well as the Jain temple which has some beautiful carvings and sculpture.
Pench National Park 70 km from Nagpur. This park shares its jungle sprawl with adjoining Madhya Pradesh. It is built around the Pench Irrigation project.
Tadoba National Park It is approx 100 Kms south of Nagpur and 45 km north of the nearest town Tadoba. Minibuses are available for viewing. This has 120 sq km area of rich deciduous forest of teak, bamboo, gardenia, satinwood, mahua and jamun. November to June is the best season for a visit. The wild life consists of several troops of langur monkeys, chital, bison, sambar, palm civets, gaur, jackal and wild boar. The lake at this park has Water birds including cattle egrets, purple moorhens and jacanas. A number of marsh crocodiles are also found in this lake.
Deeksha Bhoomi Deeksha Bhoomi is a holy monument for Buddhists where Buddhists receive Deeksha every year on Ashok Vijaya Dashmi Day . Every year a mass congregation of all the followers of Lord Buddha and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar assemble here from all parts of the country.
Sevagram Mahatma Gandhi established his Sevagram Ashram in 1933, where he spent 15 years. It is believed that this place had the honour of being the headquarters of the social service programmes that Gandhiji conducted. It gets its name thus. Accommodation is available at Yatri Niwas, MTDC and also has a beautiful resort at Wardha.
Khindsi Famous mainly for its large and picturesque lake. Boating facilities are also offered. Khindsi is very close to Ramtek, in fact you can combine the two places in a single trip.
Markanda This small parish is located on the left bank of Vainganga river. The land gets its name from Sage Markandeya. A cluster of temples exist here housing Shiva Linga which Markandeya is believed to have worshipped. The cluster has an approximate 24 temples and the architecture strongly resembles that of the Khajuraho temples.
