  India » Mount Abu
      City Guide

Welcome to Mount Abu, the only green patch of relief in the brown deserts of Rajasthan. Legend has it that the place derived its name from Arbuda, a serpent who rescued Lord Shiva s bull, Nandi. Situated atop a 1,220 m high plateau in the Aravalli hills, this modest hill resort centred around Lake Nakki is a perfect getaway from the heat of the surrounding deserts and plains.

Guru Shikhar, the highest point of the Aravalli range, (1,722 m) offers a splendid view of the thickly wooded hills caressed by the winds.

The exquisite Dilwara Temples make Mount Abu a major Jain pilgrimage destination. Built between the 11th and 13th Century, the beauty of these marble carvings dedicated to the Jain Tirthankaras is beyond description. The enticing woods here propose a good challenge for trekkers while the rich mix of spiritualism and mythology lends Mount. Abu a charm of its own.
