  India » Kullu
      City Guide

Cradled in the Valley of the Gods by Pir Panjal, the Parvati Range and Barabhangal, Kullu forms the gateway into the lower Himalayas of Himachal. A town of temples, the Beas and Parvati rivers merge here to give Kullu its sacred image. The little town is also renowned for its exceptionally grand Dussehra celebrations. Kullu is an ideal spot for some heavy-duty trekking. Expeditions for upto 10-12 days are organised in this area from Pin-Pass to Spiti and Manikaran to Chhota Dhara. Raison is an ideal camping site along the Beas River where HPTDC offers rafting expeditions.

Shopping at Kullu may not be as exciting as it is in Manali. Tiny trinket shops selling beads and jewellery dot the small town. Also famous in the region is the embroidered work on shawls and firans. Embroidered woollen caps, better-known Kullu caps, can also be bought here for Rs 20-25. The prices are cheaper at the local stores as compared to bigger showrooms.
