      City Guide

The Czech Republic is most preferred by the Slovakian people. From the pulsing capital Prague to the back-in-time villages of Moravia, from toiling up mountains to lounging in spas, from the world-famous Pilsner to the strains of Smetana and Dvorák, there s an experience to suit every taste.

Prague
Prague is a beautiful, sensuous city. This stunning capital of the Czech Republic has become increasingly popular with tourists, and now easily rates among Europe s most romantic city-break destinations. Its architecture is remarkably diverse.

Prague Castle (Prazski Hrad)
It is visible from all over Prague and dominates the skyline. The complex is very large and includes what could be described as a small town of its own.

St Vitus Cathedral (Katedral sv. Vita)
It is Czech Republic s largest church and an architectural gem. In the castle gardens is the Belvedere, a fine Renaissance building dating to the fifteen thirties.

The Old Town and Old Town Square
The Old Town Square is surrounded by examples of beautiful architecture; from the Gothic town palace to the fairy-tale Church of our Lady before Tyn. One side is taken up with market stalls selling local glass and puppets.

Prague Dinner River Cruise
Admire the evening lights of Prague whilst cruising along the River Vltava. A splendid hot buffet meal is included in the price, along with live entertainment.

?i?kov TV Tower
A short walk from the Jirího z Podebrad Square is Prague s TV tower that provides a fantastic 360-degree view of Prague through the windows of its observation deck.

National Museum (Národní muzeum)
The National Museum dominates the top of Wenceslas Square. The museum houses exhibits on the prehistory of Bohemia, Moravia and Slovakia, collections of rocks and minerals, and vast paleontology, zoology, and anthropology displays.

Karlův most (Charles Bridge)
Prague is a popular sightseeing destination and has one of the most beautiful bridges in Europe. There are towers standing on each end of the bridge. is also popular with Czech artists, musicians and souvenir vendors whose stands line both sides of the bridge year-round. A great time of day to come to the bridge is at sunset when one can enjoy a breathtaking view of the fully lit Prague Castle against the evening sky.

Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad)
Founded in 1358, the Czech Republic s largest spa town, situated along the river Tepla, has long been a place of decadent extravagance, celebrity visitors and clandestine liaisons.

Shopping in Prague can be frustrating or rewarding, depending on the approach taken. Western chains and large stores around Václavské náměstí do not offer bargains and shoppers should seek out the smaller shops to browse and patronize the cafés when it all becomes too much.

Czech crystal and glassware are superb and often extremely good value. There are enough shops for one to spend an entire day on this alone. Cheap Czech crystal jewellery is found throughout the city.

Jan Hunek Starozitnosti, Paří?ská 1, sells beautiful Czech glass from the 18th century to 1930s Art Deco. Alma, Vamentinská 7, specializes in porcelain, lace and folk costumes. Away from the centre, Bazaars ? glorified junk shops ? occasionally turn up real finds.

Prague s extensive bus and streetcar network, Dopravní Podnik, allows for fast, efficient travel throughout the city.

Prague s compact historic center is best appreciated on foot, with the help of cheap, widespread public transportation. You can get tickets, directions, schedules and multi-lingual public transport system maps at information offices located in five major metro stations, including Muzeum and Mstek.
