Nassau, the nation?s capital, is located on New Providence Island and offers an array of Bahama attractions. The city boasts a lovely blend of both old world charm and modern amenities. Preserved colonial buildings are mixed in with world-class hotels and resorts, while the city offers countless dining options, shopping, and entertainment. Paradise Island connects to Nassau by bridge and offers some of the most glamorous resorts, dining, and nightlife one could desire from Bahamas vacations.
Freeport, Grand Bahama Islands. Unlike Nassau, though similar to Paradise Island, Freeport is a city planned and built from the ground up to be a modernistic city. Home of many top-notch resorts, Freeport attracts tons of visitors with two casinos, great golf courses, and tons of entertainment. Many resorts offer all-inclusive Bahamas vacations with meals, dining, activities and entertainment all provided in the package.

Many items sold in the Bahamas are duty-free, including perfumes, leather goods, sweaters, linens, crystal, photographic equipment, liquor, telescopes and binoculars. The islands have a good selection of jewelry from around the world (including Colombian emeralds) as well as imported woolens, Swiss watches, English china and other foreign luxury items. Duty-free shopping isn t always a bargain. Check prices at home first to make sure the savings justify the hassle of transporting the items.
Local goods include liquor, handicrafts and art. Androsia batiks, with their vivid colors and striking designs, are great souvenirs. Straw markets in Nassau, in Freeport s International Bazaar and on several islands sell assorted goods woven from straw. You ll find everything from hats to dolls. The straw baskets from Harbour Island are generally of high quality. If you don t see what you want on display, ask for it - sometimes the weaver will make it to order. Bargaining in the local markets is not as prevalent as in some of the Caribbean countries, but it doesn t hurt to try. |

The Lucayan Harbour Cruise Facility covers 1,630 acres, which includes cruise and day ferry berths and two Caribbean style retail and entertainment village centers. Guests are welcomed to the island with live bands and smiling greeters offering complimentary local rum punch. Carnival, Disney and Discovery Cruise Lines make regular calls to the Lucayan Harbour Cruise Facility. In the past two years, Royal Caribbean, Silversea Cruises, Holland America, Costa, Fred Olsen, and Sun Cruises made special ship calls.
Discovery Cruise Line offers a Bahamas Day Cruise that sails daily from Port Everglades, Ft. Lauderdale, departing at 7:45 a.m. and arriving in Grand Bahama at 1:00 p.m. The ship departs the island at 4:45 p.m. and arrives in Ft. Lauderdale at 10:00 p.m.
Rental cars, equipped for left-hand driving, are available in larger cities. Rental car facilities are often located at major hotels. Renting a car is convenient way for you and group of your friends or family to explore more the island on your own time.

You can call a taxi or flag one down on the street. Taxi stands are also conveniently placed at most large hotels. Although metered rates vary by island, they are reasonable and are fixed by law.
