St Stephens Cathedral
The real heart of the city. The imposing St Stephen s Cathedral marks Graben s eastern end, is easily spotted from more distant viewpoints by its brightly coloured roof tiles.

Hofburg
The Imperial Palace until 1918, the Hofburg is almost a city in itself. Today it is used for a variety of state functions and also houses a number of museums.

Spanische Hofreitschule
For over 400 years, the horses of the Spanish Riding School have performed their elegant maneuvers at the Imperial stables. The Lipizzaner Museum Wien at the stables traces the history of these renowned performing horses and also offers the opportunity to see the animals quartered. The easiest way to see the horses in action is at their morning training sessions 1000-1200 Tuesday to Friday. Tickets for the actual performances are in high demand, and should be booked well in advance. The season generally runs from February to June and from September to December. Gala performances are on Wednesday evening and Sunday morning and tickets are available on the Internet, by post or by fax (öS300-900 or öS200 for standing room). Classical dressage to music is on Saturday morning; tickets cost öS250 plus booking fee and are only available through travel and ticket agencies.

Schloss Schönbrunn
Schönbrunn Palace is Vienna s answer to Versailles and was used as the summer residence of the Hapsburgs from the eighteenth century until 1918. Of the 1411 rooms in the palace, 40 are open to the public. The golden-yellow palace is set within equally magnificent gardens in the Baroque style, with straight lines and monumental views.

Schonbrunn Zoo
The World oldest yet most modern it houses not only indigenous species but also a huge variety of exotic animals.

Belvedere
Belvedere is one of the finest baroque palaces. It offers terrific views across the gardens and the city beyond. The Oberes Belvedere houses art from the nineteenth-century classical, romantic and Biedermeier periods.

Kunsthistorisches Museum (Museum of Fine Arts)
This monument building houses antique art treasures and countless paintings including the worlds largest collection of bruegels.

Naturhistorisches Museum (Natural History Museum)
This the mirror image of the Kunsthistorisches Museum, and houses collections of anthropological, geological and palaeontological exhibits, including a variety of dinosaur and ice-age mammal fossils.

This impressive museum of natural history features an excellent array of flora and fauna along with displays focusing on geology, astronomy and physics.

Hohensalzburg Fortress
This castle is one of the highlights of the city and offers excellent views of the city. The castle features a tower, torture chambers and impressive staterooms.

In Salzburg

Shopping in Salzburg is a pleasure because everything is close at hand. The Altstadt won t wear you out as all the shops are right next to one another. Good buys in Salzburg include souvenirs of Land Salzburg (dirndls, lederhosen, and petit point) and all types of sports gear. Getreidegasse is a main shopping thoroughfare, but you ll also find some intriguing little shops on Residenzplatz.

In Vienna

Vienna has an extensive system of metro, bus, light rail and tramway services. Most routes have a flat fare, and there are pre-purchase multi-journey tickets and passes. The Vienna Card entitles visitors to 72 hours of unlimited travel by underground, bus and tram. The card can be purchased at hotels or at Vienna Transport s ticket offices. The classic way to travel round the capital is by horse-drawn carriage (Fiaker); fares should be agreed in advance. There are bus systems in the other entire main towns, and also tramways.

In Salzburg

Salzburg AG operate the city buses and the urban train network (Lokalbahn). Tickets for both methods of transport are relatively inexpensive but it is best to get a 24-hour pass if making several journeys. Tickets are available from train stations and in tobacco shops. Taxis are expensive but easily available, with stands located throughout the city.There is a network of cycle paths that has been constructed as part of a plan for reducing traffic. Walking around Salzburg is easy and most of the major sights are within close proximity to the hotels.

Getting around in Innsbruck

The bus is the most convenient way to travel within the city & also to reach the six major ski areas. Most city bus and streetcar routes begin or end at Maria-Theresien-Strasse, nearby Bozner Platz, or the main train station. Taxi stands are scattered at strategic points throughout the city, or you can call a radio car
