Itinerary


Day 01: Delhi Arrival

Arrive at Delhi Airport. You will be met and assisted by a Travel House representative, reach and check in the hotel. Overnight will be at the hotel.


Day 02: Delhi

After breakfast continue with full day Delhi sight seeing tour and visit:

• Qutub Minar - the tallest stone tower in India, built in 1191 AD.

• Humayun's Tomb – believed to have been designed by his widow. Its plan is based on the description of Islamic paradise gardens and is known to have inspired the Taj Mahal and many later Mughal tombs.

• Red Fort – Built by the great Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan when he shifted his capital from Agra. A short drive brings us to the Great Mosque - The Jama Masjid.
Drive on to see the memorial built for Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.

• Rashtrapati Bhavan – architecturally a very impressive building standing at a height, with a vista to the India Gate right opposite to it. This stretch, called the Rajpath, is where the Republic Day parade is held. Rashtrapati Bhavan is the official residence of the President of India.

• Purana Quila – a good example of medieval military architecture. Built by Sher Shah Suri in the 16th century, the Purana Quila is a monument of bold design, which is strong, straightforward and every inch a fortress.
Car at disposal for evening drive through the city for shopping and other leisurely activities. Return to hotel for overnight stay at the hotel.


Day 03: Delhi / Lucknow (Lucknow Shatabdi Express 06:15/12:30) – Sravasti (170 kms/04 hrs)
Check out and transfer to the airport to board the Shatabdi Express for Lucknow. After lunch at Lucknow, drive to Sravasti. Upon arrival at Sravasti, check-in into the hotel. Dinner, overnight stay at the hotel.


Day 04: Sravasti – Lumbini (225 kms/05 hrs)

In the morning, visit Saheth-Maheth.
Saheth–Maheth - The place was first explored by General Cunningham, who made slight excavations, the results of which were afterwards published. In December 1884 Dr. W. Hoey was deputed to examine the place and his report was published in 1892. Dr. Hoey unhesitatingly identified Sahet Mahet with the ancient capital of Sravasti, but his view has been disputed.
Later, depart for Lumbini en-route visiting Kapilavastu. On arrival at Lumbini, check-in into the hotel.

• Kapilavastu – It is the name of an ancient Indian city, located close to Lumbini that is considered a pilgrimage place for Buddhists. The general view now is that Kapilavastu was a large area, which is now mainly in Nepal (partly in India).

• Lumbini – Lord Buddha was born in Lumbini, in southwestern Nepal, nearly twenty-five hundred years ago. Since then, the city has always remained the focal point for Buddhism. Today's Lumbini is a small sleepy town in the southwestern Tarai plains for Nepal, where the ruins of the old city can still be seen. The followers of both Hinyana and Mahayana sects of Buddhism revere Lumbini. The restored gardens and surroundings of Lumbini have the remains of many of the ancient stupas and monasteries.
Overnight stay will be at the hotel.


Day 05: Lumbini – Kushinagar (148 kms/04 hrs)

In the morning, visit the birthplace of Lord Buddha and then leave for Kushinagar. On arrival at Kushinagar, check into the hotel. In the afternoon, visit:

• Mahaparinirvana Temple – The Mahaparinirvana Temple, commemorating the place of the great decease with a reclining statue of Lord Buddha. The Mata Kunwar Shrine contains a 10th Century blue schist image of Buddha

• Ramabhar Stupa – Rambhar Stupa, which is supposedly the spot where Lord Buddha was cremated and his relics divided into eight equal parts.

• Nirvana Temple – Nirvana Temple is one of the most frequented amongst Buddhist shrines in the world. The Nirvana Temple is a must-visit destination and evokes emotions for every Buddhist because it is the temple close to which, Lord Buddha died.
Overnight stay will be at the hotel.


Day 06: Kushinagar – Patna (250 kms/06 hrs)

After breakfast at hotel, check out and depart for Patna. En-route visits Vaishali:

• Ashokan Pillar – Emperor Ashoka built the Lion Pillar at Kolhua. It is made of a single piece of highly polished red sandstone, surmounted by a bell shaped capital, 18.3 m high. A life-size figure of a lion is placed on top of the pillar. There is a small tank here known as Ramkund.

• Bawan Pokhar Temple – An old temple built in the Pala period stands on the northern bank of Bawan Pokhar and enshrines beautiful images of several Hindu gods.

• Budha Stupa-I – The exterior of this stupa, which is now in a dilapidated condition, has a plain surface. One eighth of the sacred ashes of Lord Buddha were enshrined here in a stone casket.
• Budha Stupa-II – Excavations at this site in 1958 led to the discovery of another casket containing the ashes of Lord Buddha.

• Abhiskek Pushkarn (Coronation tank) – It contains water that was believed to be sacred in the old days. All of Vaishali’s elected chiefs were anointed here before their swearing in. The Lichchavi stupa was located near here.

• Kundalpur – Birthplace of Lord Mahavira. It is believed that the Jain Tirthankar, Lord Mahavir was born here some 2500-2600 years ago. Mahavira is said to have spent the first 22 years of his life here.
On arrival, check into the hotel. After dinner, overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 07: Patna – Bodhgaya (195 kms/05 hrs)
In the morning, check out and depart for Bodh Gaya en-route visiting Rajgir and Nalanda. Visit the Gridhakuta Hill by the cable ropeway to see the stupa built by the Japanese.

• Vishwa Shanti Stupa – This place has been associated with Lord Buddha and Buddhism for ages. Lord Buddha spent many months of retreat during the rainy season here meditating and preaching on Griddhkuta, the Hill of Vultures as it was not near to the city and was free from insect pests and had a mild climate.

• Nalanda was one of the greatest centres of learning of the world.
On arrival at Bodh Gaya, check into the hotel for dinner. Overnight stay will be at the hotel.

Day 08: Bodhgaya
After breakfast at the hotel, proceed for sightseeing tour to visit:

• Mahabodhi Temple – The Mahabodhi Temple (Literally: "Great Awakening Temple") is the Buddhist temple at the location where Siddhartha Gautama, attained enlightenment and became the Buddha. Bodh Gaya is located about 96 km (60 miles) from Patna. Next to the temple, to its western side, is the holy Bodhi tree under which he was meditating at the time of his enlightenment. In the Pali Canon, the site is called Bodhimanda, and the monastery there, the Bodhimanda Vihara.
Overnight stay will be at the hotel.

Day 09: Bodhgaya – Varanasi (240 kms/05 hrs)
After breakfast at the hotel, check out and leave for Varanasi. Enjoy a packed lunch en-route. On arrival, check into the hotel. In the afternoon, visit Sarnath to see the Deer Park, which contains most impressive remains as well as a modern temple.

• Sarnath – A famous archaeological sight in Uttar Pradesh, Sarnath is an important Buddhist site. Lying at a distance of about 10 kms from the holy city of Varanasi, Sarnath was one of the four important geographical landmarks in the life of Buddha. After attaining enlightenment at Bodh Gaya, Buddha left for Sarnath where he preached his first sermon.

Drive to Varanasi, reach and check into the hotel. Varanasi stands on the west bank of the River Ganga as it flows through the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Varanasi, Benares, Kashi, they have called this city by many names. Placed between the Varuna and the Assi rivers it is Varanasi. It is the spiritual pilgrimage that is like a luminous beacon to Hindus and for them it has always been Kashi, the city of light.
After dinner, overnight stay will be at the hotel.

 

Day 10: Varanasi
Morning proceed for full day sightseeing tour of Varanasi to visit:

• Dasashawamedha Ghat – The city stands by a curve of the River Ganga, with the stone steps of the numerous ghats sweeping down to the water. At dawn, hire a boat and drift past the ghats and the city will float past like a hand-operated bioscope.

• Kashi Vishwanath Temple – At the heart of this city is the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, the holiest shrine of Lord Shiva. Here he is also called Vishweshwara, the lord of the world and the city is said to sit atop his trishul (trident).

 

Day 11: Varanasi – Delhi – Departure
After breakfast at the hotel transfer to airport to take the flight for Delhi and take connecting flight from Delhi for onward destination.
