DAY 01:

Arrive at Chennai Airport. You will be met and assisted by a Travel House Representative, reach and check in the hotel. The Gateway to the South; Chennai (formerly Madras) located in Tamilnadu. Every tourist destination rhymes a melodious saga that coherently harmonizes the past with the present. Chennai is the most vibrant and enchanting cities of the South and is also one of the most exotic destinations of the Indian sub-continent. Bestowed with exquisite beauty and natural charisma, Chennai calls for exploration.
Proceed for half-day sightseeing tour of Chennai visit:

The Marina Beach – Spreads over an area of 14.5 km, is the second longest beach in Asia. This beach appears like a festive ground on weekend evenings.

St. George – St. George Forte is another major landmark of Chennai. The British East India Company built it in the year 1653. It has a museum that has a fine collection of British and French antiques and other commemorations.

Parthasarthy Temple – One of the oldest temples of this region and echoes with divine grace. The temple is consecrated to Lord Krishna. Built in the 8th century BC by the Pallavas, the temple was remodeled in the 16th century by the Vijaynagar kings.

Kapaleeswar Temple – The grand old temple of Chennai, is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple is a living evidence of the architectural skills of the Dravidian clan of the 13th century. However, non-Hindus are not allowed to enter into the main place of worship in the temple.

Santhome Cathedral – Built during the 14th -15th century, is another splendid place worth visiting.

DAY 02:

Morning drive to Mahabalipuram, The virtuous city of Mahabalipuram (also Mamallapuram) is situated just 60 km off Chennai on the Bay of Bengal coast in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Reach and check in the hotel and afternoon proceed for sightseeing tour visit:

Arjuna's Penance : This skillfully carved rock is the largest bas - relief sculpture in the world. It gets its name from the figure of an ascetic who is believed to be Arjuna, the hero of Mahabharata, doing penance to obtain a boon from Lord Siva.

Five Rathas : There are five monolithic temples, each created in different style. They are also know as Pancha Pandava Rathas, and four of the Rathas are supposed to have scooped out of a single rock formation.

    Tiger's Cave : It is 4 kms north of the main monument complex. It was an open air theatre, where cultural programmes are held. Though it is very near the sea, the place is serene and calm.

    The Shore Temple : This is one of the oldest temples in South India. It belongs to the 8th Century AD and is a good example of the first phase of structural temples constructed in Dravidian style.


DAY 03:

Morning drive to Pondicherry en-route visit Kanchipuram, The city of a Thousand Temples Ancient Kancheepuram, the city of thousand temples, is one of the most sacred pilgrim centres for the Hindus. There now remain 126 temples in Kanchi and a few more in the outskirts. This city was under the control of the Cholas as far back as the 2nd Century BC and a Pallava capital between the 6th and 8th centuries.

Sakkiswarar Temple – Built by the Cholas, this temple is located near the Kamakshi Amman Temple.

Vaikuntha Perumal Temple – An important Vishnu temple built by the Pallava King Nandivarman Pallavamalla, in the 7th century AD. Numerous inscriptions are found in the temple, relating to the wars between the Pallavas and the Chalukyas.

Kailasanatha Temple – Built by Rajasimha and his son Mahendra the 3rd, in the 8th century AD.

Ekambareswarar Temple – Another ancient temple, renovated by the Pallavas, the Cholas and the Vijayanagar kings. The 57 metre high Rajagopuram, is one of the tallest towers in South India.

Kamakshi Amman Temple – This is one of the three holy places of Shakti worship in India. The other two are in Madurai and Varanasi.

Afternoon continue drive to Pondicherry, reach and check in the hotel. More than anything else, the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, where Sri Aurobindo and the Mother lived for the most parts of their lives, attracts tourists to this little city. The Pondicherry Museum is home to some of the most exquisite collections on architecture and sculpture. Some of the other interesting sites include the Bharti and Bharthidasan Memorial museums and the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Overnight will be at the hotel.


DAY 04:

Morning proceed for sightseeing tour of Pondicherry visit:

Sri Aurobindo Ashram – The ashram was founded in 1920 when Sri Aurobindo reached Pondicherry, a French colony and put in place his ideas of peaceful community. The ashram for long was run by his French companion Mirra Alfassa, universally known as the Mother. Each member of the Ashram is free to mediate the way he or she prefers; there are no rituals, obligatory practices, and systematic instruction.

Pondicherry Museum – Situated in the Government Park, the Pondicherry Museum has a good sculpture gallery and a section of archaeological finds from the Roman settlement at Arikamedu. There is also a French section charting the history of the colony. The objects include the four-poster bed in which Dupleix is believed to have slept.

Promenade – A lovely beach within bike range from the city center in the north is a pleasant surprise. With a 1.5-km-long promenade, this is the most delightful part of the city. A stroll, sunbath, or a swim enhances the quality of experience. On the beachfront are located many sites such as a statue of Mahatma Gandhi surrounded by eight exquisitely carved monolithic pillars and a war memorial.

Bharti and Bharthidasan Memorial Museum – Bharti Museum is located at Eswaran Koil Street, the place where the legendary Tamil poet lived after arriving here in 1908 in search of refuge. Bharthidasan Memorial Museum is situated at Perumal Koil Street where Kanakasubburatnam, a disciple of Bharti, lived.

Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus – Built in the Gothic style, this massive church is one of the most beautiful churches in Pondicherry.

Afternoon proceed for excursion tour of Auroville city of dawn:

Auroville – Situated just across the border in the state of Tamil Nadu, Auroville, about 10 km away from Pondicherry, is a unique experience in itself. The place, also known as 'City of Dawn,' was founded in 1968 as a tribute to Sri Aurobindo. It is a lush green cover created over 25 years by sheer hard work and dedication. The place is spread over 50 sq. km and has a population of over 900. The Mata Mandir situated in the centre of the town is the spiritual centre with a 30-metre-high globe with lotus-shaped foundation urn.

DAY 05:

Morning drive to Tanjavur, reach and check in the hotel Thanjavur is 55 km east of Tiruchirappalli. It is the highly fertile delta of the Cavery River and the capital of the Cholas during their supremacy. Afternoon proceed for sightseeing tour visit:

Sri Bragadeeswarar Temple – Built by the great Chola King, Rajaraja.1 in the 10th century AD is an outstanding example of Chola architecture.

The Palace – The Palace near the temple is a vast building of masonry built partly by the Nayaks around 1550 AD and partly by the Marathas.

Art Gallery – In the Palace there are a number of granite and bronze statues of the Chola period. Timings 9 am to 1 pm, 2.pm to 6 pm.

Saraswathi Mahal Library – In another section of the palace is a library where over 30,000 palm leaves and paper manuscripts in Indian and European languages are preserved Timings 10 am to 1 pmand 1.30pm to 5.30pm.

Schwartz Church – Built in 1779 AD by Rajah Serfoji in token of his affection for the Rev. C.V.Schwartz of the Danish Mission (In the Palace Garden).

DAY 06:

Morning drive to Madurai en-route visit Trichy, The most famous land mark of this bustling town is the Rock fort Temple, a spectacular monument perched on a massive rocky out crop which rises abruptly from the plain to tower over the old city. The Pallavas, Pandyas and Cholas chose this city for their feudal wars. The city is known for its temple architecture.

The Rock Fort – It is 272ft above the city on the banks of the river Cauvery. The rock cut into 437 steps, leads to the temple. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vinayaka (the mythical half-man, half-bird Garuda who is Vishnu's Vehicle, famous in the Epic Mahabharata).

The Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple – This temple is at Sri Rangam Island, in the middle of the Cauvery river. This temple was built by various dynasties including the cheras, Pandyas,Cholas, Hoysalas and the Vijayanagar Empire between 13th and 18th centuries.

Sri Jambukeswara Temple – This temple is situated about 2.5 km east of the Sri Ranganathaswamy temple. It has an interior with a large central court, an excellent example of the Dravidian architecture of A D 1600.

Continue drive to Madurai, reach and check in the hotel. Madurai or the "city of nectar" is the oldest and second largest city of Tamil Nadu. This city is located on Vaigai River and was the capital of Pandyan rulers till the 14th century. Madurai is an animated city packed with pilgrims, beggars, businesspeople, bullock carts and legions of underemployed rickshaw- wallahs. Dating about 2500 years back in time, it is one of southern India's oldest cities, and has been a centre of learning and pilgrimage for centuries. Afternoon drive to Madurai, reach and check in the hotel. Overnight will be at the hotel.


DAY 07:

Morning proceed for sightseeing tour of Madurai: 

Meenakshi Temple – The Meenakshi temple, as we know it today, covers a vast area and is an eclectic mix of architectural styles, improved upon by different dynasties such as the Vijayanagara and Nayaka rulers. The temple is dedicated to Meenakshi, the consort of Lord Shiva.

Vandiyur Mariamman Teppakulam - This is a huge temple tank about 5 km east of the Meenakshi temple. The mandapam in the centre has an idol of Vigneshwara (Vinayaka). Discovered during excavation to build the Thirumalai Nayakkar Mahal, the place was believed to be sanctified and was converted into a teppakulam (tank).

Thirumalai Nayak Mahal – There is no other building in Madurai, which better illustrates the architectural style of the Nayaks. The palace of Tirumalai Nayak is about 1 km away from the temple. This Indo-Saracenic building was constructed in 1523 and was originally four times as large as it is today. This palace consisted mainly of two parts, namely Swargavilasa and Rangavilasa which house the royal residence, theatre, shrine, apartments, armoury, palanquin place, royal bandstand, quarters, pond and gardens. The most remarkable part of this palace is the dome of Swarga Vilasam, which lies beyond a huge courtyard and is a magnificent example of the engineering skill of its builders, rising as it does to a height of 20m without support of any kind.

The Gandhi Museum – The Gandhi Memorial Museum is one of the distinct places to be visited in Madurai. This museum is one of the rare living memorials of "The Father of India" and has an elaborate historical account of India's struggle for independence.

Annamalai and Nagamalai – Annamalai and Nagamalai are two striking rock formations, and home to ascetics of the Jain and Hindu faiths. There are inaccessible caves with Tamil Brahmi inscriptions on rock beds which are chiselled out as quarters for the sages.

Manalur – The chance discovery of 13th century icons of Bikshadanar and Krishna in child form, a sacred conch, a lamp and other vessels at Manalur, about 20 km from Madurai, has thrown fresh light on the history of this place.For most people living in Madurai, Manalur is known as just a sleepy suburb of the temple city, situated on the banks of river Vaigai, known for its brick kilns and as a main quarry for sand

DAY 08:

Morning drive to Periyar, reach and check in the hotel. Set in the high ranges of the Western Ghats of southwestern India, Periyar is a popular Wildlife Sanctuary, replete with great scenic charm and rich bio-diversity. Spread over a wide expanse of about 780 sq. km. along the river Periyar in Kerala, this sanctuary ranks as one of the major tiger reserves in India. Day on leisure enjoy the scenic beauty and explore Periyar. Overnight will be at the hotel.

DAY 09:

After breakfast drive to the Periyar National Park. Take a boat ride though the whole Wildlife Sanctuary.

About Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary: Lying close to the plantations, in the rich jungles of Periyar in Thekkady is one of the worlds most fascinating natural wildlife reserves - the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. Spread across 777 sq. km, of which 360 sq. km is thick evergreen forest, the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary was declared a Tiger Reserve in 1978.

After the boat ride proceed for a sight seeing tour. Visit the following places:

Spice Plantation Tour: Take a walk along the panorama of cardamom and pepper plantations.

Mangala Devi Temple: It lies hidden in the dense woods at the top of a peak 1337 m above sea level. Mangala devi temple, the ancient temple is located 15 kms from Thekkady

Kumily: This plantation town is an important shopping center and spice trade center.

DAY 10:

After breakfast drive to Munnar, reach and check in the hotel. Afternoon take a ride through the Eravikulam National Park. Trekking here can perhaps give you a glimpse of Nilgiri Thar, the rarely seen mountain goat. Proceed for sightseeing of Munnar visit:

Tea Gardens and Factory – Collection of old bits and pieces from the colonial era can be seen here. Demonstration of tea production. Information on machinaries, tea processing and tea tasting.

 CSI Church – A church built with stone in 1910. It has fine stained glass and brass plaques.

Mattupetty – 14 Km away from Munna, Mattupetty dam has an agriculture garden on its banks. Speedboat ride through the dam is also available.

Devikulam – Devikulam is an out-of-the-world experience among exotic flora and fauna, cool mountain air, and velvet lawns. An idyllic hill station, Devikulam is located at a distance of around 7 km from Munnar.

Echo Point – As its name suggests, the place has a natural echo phenomenon. It is situated at a distance of around 15 km from Munnar on the way to Top Station.

DAY 11:

After breakfast drive to Cochin. On arrival check-in at the hotel. Later proceed for the sight seeing tour. Visit the following places:

Chinese Fishing Nets/Vasco Da Gama Square: These huge cantilevered fishing nets are the legacy of one of the first visitors to the Malabar Coast. Erected here between 1350 and 1450 AD by traders from the court of Kublai Khan, these nets are set up on teak wood and bamboo poles.

Vasco House: Believed to have been the residence of Vasco da Gama, this is one of the oldest Portuguese residences in Fort Kochi.

VOC Gate: The large wooden gate facing the Parade Ground, with the monogram (VOC) of the once mighty Dutch East India Company carved on it, was built in 1740.

Willingdon Island: Named after Lord Willingdon, a former British Viceroy of India, this man-made island is surrounded by beautiful backwaters. The island is the site of the city's best hotels and trading centres, the Port Trust and the headquarters of the southern naval command.

Santhanagopala-Krishnaswamy Temple: The original foundation of this temple was laid in 947 AD according to the inscriptions found here.

In the evening watch Live Kathakali Show (Dance & Drama performance). Return to hotel for overnight stay.


DAY 12:
